The district my paid internship was in for my student teaching year had a strong focus on visible learning. This outlined that students knew what they were to learn and how they'd know they'd be successful. With novel units, students discussed and reviewed these at the beginning and end of class. With Journeys, I have combined the Learning Target and Success Criteria to align with the strategy and skill focused on in each lesson. Doing graphic organizer and writing activities, we refer back to what our goals were and where we need to go.

Included here is a sample of a PowerPoint I put together for a Journey's lesson. With each lesson, I create an intro question to gauge prior knowledge, set up note-taking and strategy goals, and prompt students through their interaction with the text and assignments.
